Welcome

When asked what improvements businesses at Altham would most like to see security is often the top response. Taking this groudswell of feeling into account the following proposal is being tabled. CCTV sign

Through a partnership of Altham businesses, the Lancashire Business Environment Association (BEA - part of Groundwork Blackburn), Hyndburn Borough Council and Lancashire Constabulary a comprehensive security camera proposal has been developed for Altham.

On 10 November 2006 the BID Ballot returned a favourable result and the proposal will now be actuated. Click here to see the Ballot Result Declaration from Electoral Reform Services.

The scheme will operate for 5 years from January 2007. It will utilise the latest technology covering vehicular access to the estate with closed circuit television (CCTV) and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras. They will be monitored ‘live’ in the Police Communications Centre, providing an additional level of security for businesses with the objectives of reducing crime, fly tipping, arson and anti-social behaviour.
The initiative will be funded through the introduction of a Business Improvement District (BID), a mechanism for collecting the revenue needed through a self imposed business levy.
