When asked what improvements businesses at Altham would most like to see security is often the top response.
Through a partnership of Altham businesses, Groundwork Pennine Lancashire, Hyndburn Borough Council and Lancashire Constabulary a comprehensive security camera proposal has been developed for Altham.
The initiative will be funded through the introduction of a Business Improvement District (BID), a mechanism for collecting the revenue needed through a self imposed business levy.
The scheme will operate for 5 years from January 2007. It will utilise the latest technology covering vehicular access to the estate with closed circuit television (CCTV) and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras. They will be monitored ‘live’ in the Police Communications Centre, providing an additional level of security for businesses with the objectives of reducing crime, fly tipping, arson and anti-social behaviour.
